Instead of discovering this shade in a quarry, it was discovered by chance following the devastating River Tanaro floods. Matteo traveled to Piedmont with his shovel, ready to volunteer. While clearing out the submerged underground garage of a luxury hotel, he became captivated by the hypnotic grey-green mud that had coated every surface. Years later, he sourced this exact illite clay from a quarry in Felizzano.
