A few steps from Rome’s historic center, within the seventeenth-century Palazzo Cavallerini Lazzaroni, MORQ studio has transformed the Hotel dei Barbieri into a manifesto of sensory architecture.
The recovery project goes beyond simple restoration, reinterpreting the spaces through a profound dialogue between historical heritage—such as original frescoes and imposing columns—and a new tactile skin. Each environment is designed as a sanctuary of stillness, where contemporary design pays homage to the nobility of the past.
The hotel’s 17 rooms, individually furnished by local artisans, preserve the unique character and original features of the site. The tactile identity of the hotel is defined by the skillful use of MATTEOBRIONI finishes. In the reception and on the ground floor, the walls are coated in MBTerra Natural Coarse Panna clay plaster, which brings a soft luminosity to the common areas. In the rooms and corridors, the atmosphere becomes more intimate thanks to the application of MBTerra Natural Coarse Sale Grigio on both walls and ceilings. To combine aesthetics and functionality in wet areas, the bathrooms are finished with MBTecnica Wall Smooth Sale Grigio mineral plaster. Other rooms feature MBTerra Natural Structured Panna on the walls and MBTerra Natural Coarse Zenzero on vertical surfaces and ceilings.
